About Me

I have authored several books on records management, experimented with entrepreneurship, got a patent, started a company, and also lectured to hundreds of hospitals and schools on privacy issues, information management, and medical record topics. This led me to join the Medical Records Institute in Boston, which I then led as CEO for 25 years.

Born in occupied Poland, where my father served as an agricultural administrator for Germany, my family escaped back to Germany before the end of World War II. While growing up in East Germany and after moving to West Germany, I experienced the pressure of different ideologies. As a young man, I became interested in politics and was elected regional chairman of the Junge Union, the youth organization of the political party CDU. Because of my love for horses, I became first a board member and then chair of the local equestrian club. My political ambitions and horseback riding activities were cut short when my company offered me the opportunity to build a company as Managing Director in the UK and a factory in Wales. Five years later an American company made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and I moved as Vice President to Boston, Massachusetts. After joining the Medical Record Institute, I managed that Institute for 25 years. as CEO. The Institute’s annual conferences Toward an Electronic Patient Record (TEPR) drew up to 3000 physicians, hospital administrators, and healthcare professionals. During that time, I chaired 12 standards organisations in the field of medical informatics and gave lectures in over 40 countries. I am now semi-retired living in Berlin, Germany and am always interested in speaking and consulting opportunities.
